In 1868, George Joestar, an English nobleman, and his son Jonathan find themselves in debt to Dario Brando after Dario helps them out of a carriage accident. What they don’t know is that Dario actually thought they were dead and had planned to steal their things. Twelve years later, after Dario passes away, George wants to repay his debt and decides to adopt Dario's son, Dio.
Dio pretends to be grateful to George but secretly wants to take the Joestar money for himself. His first move is to create a rift between George and Jonathan. By always trying to outshine Jonathan, Dio secures his place in the family. However, when Dio goes too far, Jonathan beats him in a fight. As years go by, the two seem like good friends to everyone else. But when George gets sick, Jonathan starts to think that Dio might be behind it. It seems like Dio has more tricks planned.
